Bio
For over twenty-five years Jayne Demakos has been using music to heal, inform, sustain and celebrate. As a performer, she co-founded ensemble’s Women in Black, Soulstice, and Women’s Works, and was the Artist in Residence at cerebral palsy camp Jabberwocky. Her music director credits include the Whiton Chorale, Lansing Residential Girls Choir, Ithaca Community Summer Chorus, and Immaculate Conception and Saint Catherine of Sienna Roman Catholic Churches. Jayne was the founding director of the first Ithaca Children’s Choir, the Martin Luther King Youth Choir, the 171 Cedar Women's Chorale. Jayne studied with Therese Schroeder-Sheker, a pioneer in the field of Music Thanatology (Music for the dying) and is currently working towards a certification in Harp Therapy through the International Harp Therapy Program in California, She is coordinator of the music program at Hospicare and Palliative Care Services of Tompkins County. Jayne consulted and performed for the World Conference of Religions and both Interfaith Services honoring the Dalai Lama. She has released two CD’s: Hush, for Harp and Voice and a collaborative album for Hospicare, Beauty Crowds Me: an Homage to Beauty. Whether as singer, pianist, harpist, teacher, or director, Jayne strives to create an environment by which we can feel our humanness more deeply.
